Mirro-Mastic
CODE: MAMA
Mirro-Mastic® is the industry standard for a high-quality adhesive mastic. Mirro-Mastic® is formulated for adhering plate glass mirror and acrylic mirror to various substrates. Mirro-Mastic® has been field and laboratory tested for compatibility with all major brands of mirror and backing paints. Mirro-Mastic: * Is formulated for use on plate glass and acrylic mirrors * Will not damage mirror silvering * Stays live and won't crack or dry * Absorbs normal vibration * Allows movement due to normal thermal changes * Can be used on reinforced safety backings.
Directions for Substrate and Mirror Preparation:
1. Do not use on a painted surface, wall covering, or treated wood. 2. For best adhesion, the mirror, substrate, and mastic should be at room temperature 22ºC. 3. Make sure mirror and substrate are free of dust, clean, and dry. On nonporous substrates, such as glass, tile, or metal, sealing is not necessary. On porous substrates, such as drywall or wood, use Mirro- Mastic® Bond (or a primer or sealer, not paint) on the substrates and allow it to dry. Painted surfaces should be sanded through to the original surface and the substrate cleaned and sealed where the mastic is to be applied. Wall coverings should be removed and the substrate cleaned and sealed where the mastic is to be applied. 4. Support mirror at the bottom. Mechanical fasteners should be used for all mirror applications. Directions for use of Mirro-Mastic®: 1. Apply Mirro-Mastic® to the mirror or substrate in a minimum of one (1) ping-pong ball size mound for every 0.0929 square meter of mirror. Do not apply mastic too close to the edge to prevent "squeeze out". Place the mounds so space will be left between them when the mirror is installed. 2. Press mirror firmly in place making good contact between the mirror, mastic, and substrate. Mastic should spread to a pat approximately 114 mm in diameter. The mastic needs air circulation to cure properly. Curing time will depend on temperature, humidity, type of substrate, and amount of air that can reach the mastic. 3. With minimum coverage, one gallon of Mirro-Mastic® will install approximately 12 square meters of mirror. When using a gallon or five-gallon drum, the Electric Applicator and Mastic Stik are available for ease of application. 4. Any clean-up can be done with mineral spirits. Additonal Information Mirro-Mastic is ideal for large mirrored walls, columns and vanities. It can be applied to help compensate for variations between the substrate and the mirror. On porous substrates, such as drywall or wood, use CRL Palmer Mirro-Mastic Bond or a primer or sealer to seal the substrate. On non-porous substrates, such as glass or tile, sealing is not necessary. Mirro-Mastic may be used with CRL Category Two Safety Tape Film that has been washed with a 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Mirro-Mastic should be applied as directed to the mirror or substrate in pats. The CRL Palmer Electric Applicator and CRL Palmer Mastic Stik are available for ease of application. CEILING APPLICATION: Ceiling mirrors MUST be applied with four applicator scoops of mastic to the square foot in conjunction with permanently installed mechanical fasteners and applied to moisture resistant drywall. Wood products should not be used. To get the proper application, the CRL Palmer Electric Applicator MUST be used. Moisture resistant drywall provides the best surface for applying mirrors. Most interior plywood, particleboard or fiberboard is treated with fire retardants that may cause poor adhesion. The drywall must be clean and dry. Also, make sure it is rigid, plumb, and smooth. Seal the surface with CRL Palmer Mirro-Mastic Bond prior to application of the mastic. (Never apply over previously painted surfaces or wall coverings.) Be sure the ceiling is not under bathrooms or kitchens where bowl, sink, or tub water could run over and damage the ceiling. Press into place and gauge for 1/8 to 3/16 inch (3 to 5 millimeters) clearance between ceiling and mirror. Coverage: With minimum coverage, one gallon will install approximately 130 square feet (12 square meters) of mirror. Shelf Life: 2 years on unopened cans. |
